New Guest Added to Line-up

As Graceland prepares for a birthday built for the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll, we are excited to share another addition to the guest lineup. Singer/songwriter Larry Gatlin will appear at the Elvis Music Salute on January 9 to share his Elvis memories and music. Elvis recorded two of Gatlin’s songs - Help Me and Bitter They Are, Harder They Fall.

Highlights of the 90^th Birthday Celebration include the annual Elvis Birthday Proclamation Ceremony on January 8, the Elvis Birthday Pops Concert featuring Terry Mike Jeffrey and the Memphis Symphony Orchestra also on January 8; the Elvis Music Salute on January 9 featuring those who knew and shared the stage with Elvis; Conversations on Elvis panel on January 10; the Elvis: Live on Stage screen show, also on January 10, featuring Elvis’ vocals backed by a live band; plus Graceland’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Birthday Bash, bus tours, dance party, and much more!

Special guests scheduled to appear include Richard Sterban, Terry Blackwood, Estelle Brown, Bill "Superfoot" Wallace, plus SiriusXM Elvis Radio DJ Argo, Pat Dunn, Tom Brown, Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Dean Z, Terry Mike Jeffrey, Andy Childs, among others.

The Sweet Inspirations

As part of Conversations on Elvis on January 10, Graceland will honor the musical group The Sweet Inspirations with an induction into Graceland Legends. Graceland Legends is designed to honor and recognize the musicians and musical groups who were an integral part of Elvis Presley’s legendary career. The Sweet Inspirations started working with Elvis in 1969 during his first Las Vegas engagement at the International Hotel and continued with him through his passing in 1977. Members during the group’s years with Elvis were Estelle Brown, Cissy Houston, Sylvia Shemwell, and Myrna Smith.

GRACELAND EN 1981

GRACELAND no abríó al público hasta 1982. Antes de eso, era permitida la entrada a ciertas áreas exteriores. Estas fotos tomadas por David Trotter en su visita de la primavera de 1981 ilustra como era Graceland entonces. Se nota que aún no existía la fotografía digital, sin embargo el sabor de estas instantáneas es bueno.

Carta de Graceland

Como cada año recibí la correspondencia directamente desde Graceland. Después de tantos años me sigue haciendo ilusión. Se trata de la renovación para 2016 para el club de fans oficial Elvis Memories, y como todavía tenemos muchos amigos que nos apoyan, pues seguimos adelante y un año más nuestra dirección figurará entre los clubes oficialmente reconocidos en Graceland (EPE enterprises).

Elvis en Graceland con "The Sunshine boys", uno de los grupos que Elvis vio en su adolescencia en los conciertos de gospel en el Ellis Auditorium de Memphis. En este grupo estuvo J.D. Sumner hasta 1954 que se unió a "The Statesmen". Las fotos están tomadas en Graceland alrededor del mes de de Agosto de 1957. En algunas fotos puede verse a su novia de entonces, Anita Wood, y a Lamar Fike.

El 17 de Marzo de 1965 se publica esta foto de Charles Nicholas, fotógrafo que trabajaba para el periódico de Memphis, "The Commercial Appeal". En la serie, hay otras como esta otra de Elvis al piano.

A Elvis le gustaba tocar el piano, y en una de las habitaciones de Graceland, la "Music Room", tocaba o bien para el, o con amigos, los cuales cantaban y tocaban toda clase de música para divertirse, como el gospel o el R&B.
Elvis también tenía sus momentos de intimidad aquí, y tocaba canciones como "Unchained Melody", "Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain" o la balada "Danny Boy".
Un día, estaban en Graceland Jerry Schilling y los demás, jugando en la piscina. Jerry oyó música y se dirigió a la sala de estar después de subir los escalones de la entrada. Elvis estaba sentado al piano y tocaba "You'll Never Walk Alone", sólo para el, y estaba dando todo lo que tenía. Jerry dijo que había sido la cosa más preciosa que había oido. Se quedó allí parado observando. Elvis de percató, le miró y sonrió, y volvió a la música.

¿Que tendrá Graceland que siempre me ha gustado tanto mirar sus fotos? Bueno, que es la casa donde vivió Elvis es una razón. La otra que es que la casa y el entorno es precioso, y encima yo pude cumplir mi sueño de visitarla. Aquí pongo algunas fotos que he encontrado en la red, y que he usado para hacer un video en el canal de Elvis Memories en Youtube.
